1. What are isopods?
Isopods are small, crustaceans commonly known as pill bugs, woodlice, or "roly-polies." They come in various species, each with its own distinct features, including color, size, and behavior. Some isopods are terrestrial, while others are aquatic. They are often kept as pets, invertebrate collections, or for bioactive terrariums.
2. Are your isopods captive-bred or wild-caught?
All of our isopods are captive-bred. We pride ourselves on offering ethically sourced and sustainably raised isopods to ensure they are healthy and well-adjusted to life in a controlled environment.
3. How do I care for my isopods?
Isopods are easy to care for and make excellent pets or additions to a bioactive setup. Here's a brief guide for their care:
- Housing: A glass or plastic enclosure with ventilation holes.
- Temperature: Keep the temperature between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C).
- Humidity: Maintain humidity levels between 60% and 80%.
- Food: Isopods are detritivores, meaning they eat decaying organic matter like leaves, wood, and vegetables.
- Substrate: Use a mixture of organic soil, leaf litter, and coconut fiber for an ideal environment.
4. What species of isopods do you sell(Some are still being added)?
We offer a variety of popular isopod species, including:
- Cubaris Sp: Such as White Shark, Miyako.
- Armadillidiidae (Pill Bugs)(TBA): Such as Armadillidiium vulgare and Armadillidiium maculatum.
- Dwarf Isopods(TBA): Like Trachelipus rathkii and Porcellio laevis.
- Exotic Species(TBA): Including Oniscus asellus, Cuban isopods, and Rubber Ducky isopods.

5. Can I keep isopods in a terrarium with other animals?
Yes! Isopods are often kept in bioactive setups with other reptiles, amphibians, or arachnids. They help break down waste and provide a clean, natural environment for your pets. Just make sure that your isopods are compatible with the other inhabitants of the terrarium and that they are not a food source for your other pets.
6. Do you offer a guarantee on your isopods?
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on our isopods. If you receive an unhealthy or damaged isopod, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order, and we'll gladly assist with replacements or a refund. Once you receive your order if you receive a Isopod that isn't moving let us know and give it about 2-4 days. Sometimes shipping can be rough if it doesn't start moving we will send you a replacement or refund for that one isopod. Just give it a few days.
7. Can isopods be shipped internationally?
At this time, we only ship within the United States. We do not currently offer international shipping due to regulations on the transport of live invertebrates.
8. How do I know which isopod species is right for me?
If you're new to isopods, we recommend starting with hardy species like Porcellio laevis or Armadillidiium vulgare (pill bugs). For more exotic or visually unique species, we offer detailed care guides and information on each product page to help you make an informed decision.
